Direct answer

Why can't I respond to Google reviews?

The usual causes are an unverified Business Profile, the wrong Google Account, missing owner or manager access, or a temporary reply delay.

Direct answer

The most common reason is that the Google Business Profile is not verified or you are signed into an account that does not have owner or manager access. Google requires verification before a business can reply. If access is correct, confirm you are viewing a Google review—not a third-party review—and allow for temporary processing or profile restrictions.

Google Business Profile permissions belong to individual Google Accounts. An employee may be able to see the business in Search without having the owner or manager role needed to manage reviews. The primary owner can check People and access and invite the employee with the appropriate role instead of sharing a password.

The Reply button can also be absent when the review comes from another website, when the profile has a verification or account restriction, or while Google is processing a profile change. Work through access and verification first; repeatedly refreshing or creating another profile can make ownership problems harder to untangle.

What to know

The profile must be verified

Google says a business must verify its Business Profile before replying to reviews. A visible profile is not always the same thing as a verified, manageable profile.

Your account needs access

Owners and managers can respond to reviews. Sign in with the authorized account or ask the primary owner to add your Google Account through People and access.

Not every displayed review is a Google review

Some profiles display third-party review summaries. Those must be managed on the original review platform, not through the Google owner-reply control.

Troubleshooting checklist

  1. 1

Search for “my business” while signed in

Use the Google Account you expect to have access. If the profile does not show management controls, check whether you are in the wrong account.

  2. 2

Check verification and People and access

Confirm the profile is verified and your account is listed as an owner or manager. Request access instead of creating a duplicate profile.

  3. 3

    Escalate persistent restrictions

If the profile is verified, access is correct, and Google reviews still have no Reply control, document the profile and error state before contacting Business Profile support.
